SPECIAL REPORT: LOVING OUR NEIGHBOURS

Church doors may be closed for large worship gatherings but local congregations have stepped out into their communities to bring love and kindness to those struggling in vulnerable situations.

Thousands of hampers have been distributed, deliveries of supplies, meals and surprise gifts made to hospitals and homes, songs performed outside retirement villages, and appreciative support given to frontline workers – this is the Church in action.

“Being confined to our homes during Covid-19 restrictions, we have never had greater opportunity to demonstrate the command of Jesus to ‘love your neighbour'”, said ACC National President Wayne Alcorn. “From the outset, we knew we needed to find innovative ways to care for people who are feeling the burden of COVID-19.”

“The way ACC churches across the nation have reached out to their communities is so inspiring. We may not have been able to go into people’s homes or physically connect with them, yet I love that the Church didn’t draw back but pressed forward with new and creative options for community engagement.”
