CHRISTMAS MESSAGE 2010

Uncertainty - this word has defined so many facets of our society in 2010.

There has been massive economic instability that, on a global scale, has crippled some European nations, and has brought families and individuals all over Australia to their knees. The increasing cost of living with rising interest rates and mortgage stress for homeowners is a constant battle for Australians trying to make ends meet.

Add to that the political instability, with cliff-hanger election results at both federal and state levels. There has been a nervous and cautious approach in the business sector, with many hard-working Australians facing job cuts.

Even the weather has been unpredictable, wreaking havoc with unseasonal snowfalls and flooding in various parts of our country.

Things that once seemed predictable and rock solid have shifted, bringing anxiety and a fear of the future. It’s tough out there and we’ve all felt it to some degree.

In the midst of this cloud of uncertainty comes Christmas, bringing with it a message of hope that transcends our human frailty and connects us with Emmanuel - God is with us. It’s good to know that we are not alone to face the uncertain future. He gives us clarity, hope and stability in a changing world because He never changes. Our prayer is that this Christmas Australians would open their hearts to the wonder and truth of a God who came to be with us - Emmanuel.
